Vincent Poon :: Postojna Cave

Perhaps one of the most visited natural sites in Slovenia, Postojna Cave constitutes the longest subterranean system in the country, with over 20 km (12 miles) of chambers, tunnels together with millions of magnificent stalactites and stalagmites

This was also the first cave I had to take an underground train for a few kms before reaching its entry point, as you could guess the sheer size of the cave.. Definitely worth a visit if you visit Slovenia.

Entrance of the Postojna cave region
As usual, there will always be some shops and restaurants along the way...
Jamski Dvorec - the restaurant next door.. and next to it was the Hotel Jama... I wonder how many people would stay here just for proximity to the cave?
Entrance and exit of the cave... On the right is the entrance and the exit is on the left

This was my first time where we had to take an underground rail car for 3.2km before arriving at the part of the cave where we could explore on foot. The train ride was actually quite fun!
Not sure what the sign tried to tell me... looked like a cop was chasing some thieves who were getting away on a railcar...
The train would stop at the Great Mountain, where we would start our 1.5 hr exploration on foot
Footpaths were well constructed throughout so the tour was really an easy walk (though could be slippery)

The size of this stalagmite just probably took millions of years to form
Young stalactites starting to form from the ceiling...
