At First Sight is a 1999 American film starring Val Kilmer and Mira Sorvino, based on the essay To See and Not to See in neurologist Oliver Sacks' book An Anthropologist on Mars In the movie, Amy Benic (Mira Sorvino) takes a break from her work as an architect in New York. The last thing she expects is to fall in love while on vacation. Virgil Adamson (Val Kilmer)is everything that she has ever wished for, with only one "problem." He's blind. The initial love scenes, and the tenderness between them, are touching and erotic; don't miss them. Amy is eager to help restoring Virgil’s eyesight. She comes across Dr. Charles Aaron, a specialist in eye treatment who suggests to Virgil that, with surgery, he could make the Blind Man see. At first Virgil refuses, and is offended. But after moving to Amy's home in New York with her, he agrees to go through with the operation. They are deeply in love. Other than by touch and imagination as to how she looks like , Virgil has never seen Amy before. When his eye sight returns the first time, he requests to look at her beautiful body. She tenderly undress herself......It is beautiful to see two people deeply in love. Nothing works out as either of them hoped. Just because Virgil's eyes can now see, doesn't mean that his brain can, and so he has to learn to see, which puts his and Amy's relationship to the test. Just as Virgil is getting used to seeing the world for the first time, he is informed that he is going blind again. The ending is unexpected, and is, in a way, sad. However, they are happily together. This is a true story. Mira Sorvino won an Oscar and a Golden Globe from another movie. She married Christopher Backus, fourteen years her junior. They met at a friend's charades party in August 2003. "He walked into the kitchen looking for silverware. We saw each other and something made us want to talk to each other more," They were engaged within a month and soon after married at a hilltop ceremony in Capri, Italy.
