Everybody was talking about the movie "Fireproof", so I went to watch it. It was much better than expected.
The story was about a young couple facing a divorce, for the usual selfish reasons, while blaming the
partner for their faults. They brought out the worst of each other.
The center piece of the story was that the husband, at the request of his father, gave the relationship
a last ditch effort. He worked on the relationship daily. He had to put into practice what God commands,
including unconditioned love, patience, foregivness, tolerance, persistence..... despite a stressful
working enviroment and brutal rejections by his wife. She was attracted to a handsome-looking young
doctor by then, which made it even more difficult to reconcile with each other.
It looked like his efforts were totally wasted, and the marriage was unsalvageble. He and his father
were about to give up. At this point, there was a change in his spiritual life. He became a person who
had spontaneous and genuine love of others around him, enjoyed helping others, and ready to
sacrifice himself for people in need. The new spirit gave him new strength to continue to work on his
failing marriage. He continued to show his wife his unconditioned love of her.It brought out from him
the best in humanity. Finally, his love, kindness, bravary, patience, unselfishness, honesty...
what people call the fruits of the Holy Spirit, touched her heart.
They ended up to have a new life spiritually as a person and a truly loving marriage together.
It was beautiful!
